StoneWind Is

We are all longing to go home to some place we have never been — a place half-remembered and half-envisioned we can only catch glimpses of from time to time. Community. Somewhere, there are people to whom we can speak with passion without having the words catch in our throats. Somewhere a circle of hands will open to receive us, eyes will light up as we enter, voices will celebrate with us whenever we come into our own power.

StoneWind is a Community for Learning, Growing, Changing, Resting, and Healing. With gracious teaching and residential facilities set amid moss covered standing stones, sweeping mountain views, deep woods, ponds, ravines, meditation trails, and natural stone gardens, StoneWind is a place outside of time. For those willing to slow down, listen, and feel, the Stones of StoneWind radiate the ancient formative energies of Earth and the new rising vibrations of our Mother, while the Winds of StoneWind remind us to be flexible and flowing, to allow change to flow over, around us, and ultimately through us.

OUR MOUNTAIN IS AN INVITATION: One of StoneWind's Yurt Cabins across the ravine from the Teaching Center. Click to enlarge. Here on the mountain Time slows, silence is broken only by the sound of wind sweeping through old hard woods, by the hawk's cry on the wind, the hoot owl's call in the dark, sometimes by the voices of friends and teachers murmuring late into the night.

Important lessons are to be learned from the Earth, from Stones and Wind, from our relationship with Nature, from each other, about ourselves, healing, our journey through the world, our place in it. But those lessons can only be learned in the silence of the individual heart when we take the time to listen. Next to potable Water, Silence is the most scarce commodity in our world. It is the Gold Standard at StoneWind.

Our mountain shares its beauty, its energies, its stones, its cleansing winds, its messages, but we must be able to listen with the quiet attention lost everywhere in our world beneath the unceasing din of technology and the frantic pace of human activity. At StoneWind we Listen. And when you are ready, we are ready— to teach, to learn, to grow together.

The greatest revolution in our generation is that of human beings, who by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives...
Marilyn Ferguson.

The Global Brain in the Age of Information brings all knowledge for anywhen or anywhere to our finger tips.We live in a unique moment in Time, a period in history when important knowledge from across the planet never before available beyond cultural boundaries is ours for the asking. In the last sixty years, ancient healing methods have come to America from the Orient and the Asian Sub-continent in the hands of those displaced by war, oppression, and political upheaval. In the same sixty years, the revolutionary advances in technology have given rise to the Age of Information that provides everyone instant, worldwide access to other ways of thinking and being, to other ways of understanding and healing the mind and body— to this place at this moment.

Qigong (chi kung) brings together gentle movements with the stimulation of chi or energy flow through the body to help healing the organs and maintain health. From the intersection of ancient experience and new information has come exciting new methods for harnessing the power of the human mind and bioenergy field in the quest for total health. These ancient modalities with their modern appli- cations, now referred to by the NHC (National Institutes of Health) as Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), and as Mind Body Medicine, have gained the attention of research scientists, health care professionals, and millions of people in search of better ways of maintaining health, better ways of living, more effective ways of healing. The best of these methods have proven to be safe, effective, inexpensive, easy to learn, easy to use, and completely compatible with western medical treatment, so much so, they are now included as treatment options in a number of major medical centers in the US and elsewhere.

At StoneWind we work to create a unique synthesis that combines these rich traditions of the past with the modern technologies for healing and change that are rapidly emerg-ing in the fertile environment that is the Information Age. Out of the intersection of old and new healing wisdom comes a body of skills from around the world and across time that can be used by anyone immediately as well as into the future. And out of this synthesis of ancient and modern healing wisdom comes an unprece- dented synergy of knowledge and skill, a creative merging of healing traditions that become more effective together than any one method is alone.

At StoneWind we are dedicated to teaching people how to empower themselves through this new synthesis and synergy in whatever ways people need and want. We have the knowledge, the skills, the teachers. All the student needs is the willingness to learn and do.

Who are you?
Why are you here?
Where are you going?
What do you want?
Who do you trust?
Who do you serve?

Instinctively we know if we ask core questions, the answers will bring profound change. We also know change is at best uncomfortable, at worst traumatic. So most of us do not ask those dangerous questions, do not deliberately invite the forces of change hoping if we do not disturb the surface of our lives, we will somehow be able to skip the Dance of Change. So for many, perhaps most, the journey to StoneWind begins at a crossroad or with a crisis. Some find themselves confronting serious medical challenges with the need to discover better answers than those available from traditional sources. For others the safe and predictable life mapped out years before falls apart, forcing them to become map makers once again. For a few, the journey grows out of a nagging feeling there is some task undone, something waiting, a path they must find and walk—something they must be or do before their life is done. Often that quest for the shimmering "unknown" leads to a path of service and the desire to learn more and better skills to alleviate suffering.

Whatever the personal catalyst for growth and change, we at StoneWind believe the most effective answers to the core questions arise from the creative merging of the world's most powerful traditions and methods, each rendered more powerful in synthesis than separation. The Institute's em- phasis, however, is on self- healing as the beginning point for all journeys. Whether the road leads ultimately to personal or professinal applications, it must begin with the Self and with the two thousand year old proverb: "Physician, heal thyself."

To that end, StoneWind makes available for the first time in one place, through techniques anyone, everyone can learn, ancient and modern understandings of mind body medicine that place the power of the mind in the service of personal health. Whether you attend a weekend workshop, pursue one of our training programs, or come for a wellness intensive, StoneWind's emphasis on the cross-cultural synthesis of health wisdom combined with hands-on practical training makes it easy for everyone to learn powerful holistic techniques for maintaining good health, for healing illness, injury, and stress, and for significantly improving quality of life.

In practical terms, we strive to present both integrated study programs and individual workshops that honor the different needs, motivations, and goals students bring to their pursuits. Much of what we offer can be taken a la carte, that is, as individual workshops separate from an integrated program. With a range of courses, it is easy to tailor a course of study to fit a wide range of needs, from those simply interested in acquiring better life skills to those of a family coping with the illness of a loved one, or those needing information and skills to help themselves when there is no or inadequate insurance coverage. There are many ways to learn, grow, and heal at StoneWind. Come and see.
